Citrus Rootstock: Poorman

What do you want to know?
חץ

Hebrew: כנת פורמן, kannat poorman
Parentage: Citrus grandis × either C. × aurantium or C. reticulata
Country of origin: Land of Israel

Also known as New Zealand. Despite past attempts to develop this rootstock as a commercial one, it has not yet matured into a commercial rootstock. This is apparently due to doubts as to whether it has sufficient resistance to tristeza virus, which severely damages citrus, as well as the fact that, from a professional standpoint, there are citrus rootstocks that are sufficiently good for grapefruit—although from a halachic (Jewish legal) perspective this matter is subject to doubt.

The Poorman rootstock was developed in Israel several decades ago at the Volcani Institute by Dr. Kurt Mendel as a citrus rootstock. Its origin is unclear, and it is most likely a hybrid of pomelo with either mandarin or sweet orange.
